Bonswa Redemption Church!
We started our day off bright and early to go out fishing with with many of the men from the fishing village. Some of them were even involved with the beading program. The fishermen take tourists out with them to see how they fish for a fee. This is a way for them to make money for their families. We all got into three boats and took about a 30 minute trip out from the shore. It was gorgeous on the water. We got to watch the sunrise from the boat. The island was so beautiful from this point of view. Once we were there, the men started to throw out multiple lines that were connected to styrofoam or empty jugs. Once about 25 lines were out we went to an area where we could see all of the bobbers and we waited for them to start moving. While waiting the men started pointing out dolphins. They were all around us. Once the dolphins had passed we noticed this really big fin. Some of the men had decided that we were going to get up close to it to check it out. When closer we realized that it was a whale. We got so close to it and it was about the size of our boats. We went on this trip planning to not catch any fish because it’s not fishing season. And we ended up seeing dolphins and a whale. It was so amazing. The beauty of Haiti continues to surprise us.
After checking out the big fin we went back to where we were watching the bobbers. Many of us got comfortable on the boats, some even fell asleep. All of a sudden there was a big commotion. We had a sailfish on one of our lines and it was about a arm span length. It jumped up out of the water and got off the hook. Fishing was a great success. It was gorgeous on the water, we saw dolphins and a whale, and we caught a fish, but it got away.
Then we all sat down and ate lunch together in preparation for our evening. We took the Agape House kids to go swimming. We all got to spend time with the kids individually. We played many games in the pool, like racing, volleyball, and hide and seek. The kids had so much fun and we did too. Our trip was ended by an unexpected downpour of rain. The kids loved it because the weather cooled down so much. It was a great ending to a great day where we got to see both the beauty of the island and the joy of the people.
