YoungLives offers teen moms relief from the isolation and struggle of their daily lives and hope for the future. YoungLives mentors provide friendship, parenting advice and help meeting the practical demands of raising a child.
On Sunday morning we highlighted Jordan Sheils and the ministry of YoungLives. Jordan is working a establish a YoungLives ministry here in the tristate area and we are excited to partner with her, on a corporate level, at Redemption Church. You should prayerfully consider being further involved on a gospel community and certainly on a personal level.
Jordan currently leads our toddler class ministry, she is a dear member of our church, a dear member of the gospel community I (Pastor Paul Boekell) lead, and she is an amazingly dear friend to my family (auntie jojo to the little men of our home). God has been doing a wonderful work in Jordan’s life over the past year (it hasn’t all been easy, but it has been sovereignly good). One of the amazing things God has brought about over the past year in Jordan’s life is her partnership with Younglives, a ministry of YoungLife, and now she is beginning the work towards starting a Younglives ministry from scratch right here in our tristate area.
Many of you are familiar with YoungLife, which we support as a church and which, until only recently, was under the local leadership of our very own Ben Allen. YoungLives offers teen moms relief from the isolation and struggle of their daily lives and hope for the future. YoungLives mentors provide friendship, parenting advice and help meeting the practical demands of raising a child. At YoungLives club and camp, moms get to socialize and have fun while their babies get the best possible care. There are very many teen moms in our area who are in desperate need of the gospel and a safe environment of refuge and community. YoungLives seeks to do just that for teen moms. As a ministry of YoungLife, YoungLives looks very similar in the way it operates, the following image (click it to expand it) highlights those similarities while speaking to some of the unique ways YoungLives ministers to teen mothers.
As a church, we are super excited about what God is going to do through YoungLives here in our area and as we plan this coming ministry year budget we are contemplating, not if, but how we can partner with Jordan and YoungLives financially. My family is planning on contributing as well, both financially and by getting our hands into the work however we can. There are several ways you can become immediately involved:
- Inform Jordan that you would like to partner with her in prayer.
- Talk to Jordan about how you can partner with her as a volunteer.
- Talk with Jordan about how you can partner with her financially.
- Follow YoungLives Huntington on Facebook.
- Be involved in one or both of the two following opportunities.
The Daddy Dash: contact Jordan about how you can sponsor and/or volunteer for this upcoming Father’s Day 5K. Or sign-up to run/walk in the race here.
Blessings in a Bottle: If you are an attendee of Redemption Church you will see a giant bottle bank on our coffee bar. Drop your loose change and cash into that bottle and all of it will go to support YoungLives here in the tristate. If you attend another church and would like to promote the Blessings in a Bottle campaign there or maybe you would like to promote the campaign at a local business, please contact Jordan about that.
