Just a reminder about registration deadlines for two upcoming conferences:
The first is the “Together for the Gospel” conference (T4G), April 10-12 in Louisville. Together for the Gospel began as a conversation among four friends: Mark Dever, CJ Mahaney, Al Mohler, and Ligon Duncan. Though they differed in some important doctrinal beliefs, they shared a passion to stand for the same gospel. According to the conference website, the conference grew out of that. The purpose is this:
T4G is convinced that the gospel of Jesus Christ has been misrepresented, misunderstood, and marginalized in many Churches and among those who proclaim the name of Christ. Therefore, the goal of these friendships, conferences, and networks is to reaffirm this central doctrine of the Christian faith and to encourage local Churches to do the same.
This year’s theme is “The Underestimated Gospel”. The focus, according to their website, will be as follows:
Power. Power to change. Power to start anew. Everyone is looking for power. Political campaigns point to the power of people. Advertising agencies exploit the power of appetite.
But Churches have something different and better. Something seemingly implausible. Something that comes in a demonstration of the Spirit and of power. Churches have the Gospel.Though we live in the world, we must not wage war as the world does, or fight with its weapons. On the contrary, we have divine power in the gospel to demolish strongholds. To redeem sinners. To create life. To transform and remake the universe. Talk about power.
Witness the underestimated Gospel.
Dever, Mahaney, Mohler, and Duncan have asked several friends to join them in 2012: Thabiti Anyabwile, John Piper, Matt Chandler, Kevin DeYoung, and David Platt. Other speakers will lead breakout sessions.
Registration ends at midnight tomorrow night (3/31/12), so move quickly if you want to go! (Register here.) Also let us know if you register, and we’ll put you in touch with Greg Lucas; you may be able ride with us, and we might have a hotel spot open also.
A rare opportunity for an excellent local conference is the 2012 Majesty of God conference. It will be held at the Holiday Inn and Suites in Barboursville (near the mall). It will be held April 27th and 28th; for a full program, as well as a registration form, click here.
The purpose of the conference, according to the conference website, is
To simply proclaim the glory and wonder of our majestic God and to grow in knowing and glorifying God with our whole life. We also desire to clearly proclaim the gospel of grace, found only in Jesus Christ alone and His finished work. Without the message of grace, we could never come to know the God of Majesty.
This year’s theme is “The Majesty of God and the Gospel”:
Seeing God in His majesty humbles us and leads us to rest in Christ alone, as He is freely offered in the gospel. The gospel, in turn, frees us to love and glorify the God of majesty. Understanding the majesty of God and the gospel, we will be led to grow in joyful worship and a life lived for the honor of Christ.
Three messages, given by Tom Sharp (one of the finest preachers and men that I’ve had the privilege to know!) will be presented from Isaiah 40:
Message One: “All Flesh is Grass”
Message Two: “Behold Your God”
Message Three: “Those who Wait on the Lord”
Four seminars will also be presented:
1. “Dressed in His Righteousness Alone:” Confidence in being Accepted by God. (Josh Bailey)
2. The Puritans: Living in Light of the Majesty of God. (Phil Simpson)
3. Suffering, Sovereignty, and the Gospel of God. (Brian McCollister)
4. Knowing What We Believe: Five Truths of God and the Gospel (Chuck Fry)
Also, registration is only $30!
Hope to see you there!
