Today was beautiful. The work got more intense and my muscles seem to be losing some steam. We were mixing concrete and lifting blocks all afternoon when the rain came. It wasn’t a slow, easy rain…it was an immediate downpour. Everyone dropped what they were doing, grabbed the bags and headed inside to the houses/huts surrounding the work site.
It was so humbling to be packed into a small home with about eight Nicaraguans. As we stood there crowded together watching the rain, one of the women asked if we would like some coffee. She had next to nothing and made us each a cup of coffee with her wood-fire, makeshift stove. I said thank you to her for making us coffee and she said, no, thank you, now our neighbors have a house. What an amazing experience.
The rain continued as we went down to the orphanage for a party. We ate food and danced and watched them perform for us. It was a great experience. The rain has been very cleansing today. I haven’t been able to read much (some of which would be my own fault) but I hope to get through at least some sizable amount before I go home.
Tomorrow is church, which is always a blast. Then we’re going to zip line down a mountain…yep, really…
God is love, love is real.
