Psalm 91 is my bible reading for the day. I’m in the midst of selling my house (2 weeks from closing!) and buying a house (waiting on a signed contract!). Many details on my worry list. So I’m transferring it to my prayer list. This loose personal paraphrase is the result of my prayer to God through Psalm 91 this morning.
He who dwells with God Most High
will remain happy and safe in his power. I don’t need this house or any house for my joy.
I am saying to my God, “You are all I need. You will protect me from danger and obstacles.
You are my God, I trust in you
Because you deliver me from hidden fees and a buyers market
And from bad credit scores.
You cover me with your protection
and under your wings I find safety. Not underwriters.
Your faithfulness protects me from things I don’t even see.
I sleep well at night rather than sit up wondering “what if”,
I walk confidently in the day without fear that yet another pitfall awaits me.
A thousand may not qualify for a loan,
Ten thousand may not sell their houses,
but you have provided for me, Jesus.
I see life as it really is,
rather than what the Wall Street Journal tells me it’s like.
Because I live with God
He is is my house
He will never need repair
He will never get termites or water damage
He will command his angels
to guard me in all my ways
I’m in God’s hands and his resources are at my disposal.
Insurance agents, loan officers, and realtors,
inspectors, buyers, and sellers will move in the sovereign hand of God.
God loves me and has shown it in Christ. He has delivered me from my sin,
my idolatry of joy in homes and neighborhoods.
He protects me from my self, he knows my name and address,
He has called me irresistibly by his grace, and I answered
I will be with him whether I sell my house or not,
Whether I buy this house or not,
He is my rescue and my joy and I exult in his supremacy over recession.
I will spend eternity living satisfied in God and living out my salvation!
